I recently created a .htaccess in my htdocs with the following lines:
Options +Includes
AddType text/html html
AddHandler server-parsed html
in order to enable Server Side Includes in my .html files.
This worked for a couple of months, until recently where it stopped working and instead I get this error on the page:
Deleting the .htaccess or commenting the above 3 lines gets rid of the above error, but the includes do not work. Has something change on the server in the last couple of weeks or so?
The error is most likely caused by the Options +Includes line. Some Options directives are no longer allowed in .htaccess on the free hosting servers, and using one triggers that error page.
You can try removing just that line and keeping the rest:
AddType text/html .html
AddOutputFilter INCLUDES .html
If the includes still don’t work, SSI likely isn’t available on your server anymore. The simplest alternative is PHP includes: rename your pages to .php and use <?php include 'header.html'; ?> in place of the SSI tags. This works reliably on all free accounts.
